Privacy Policy
Last updated 29 July 2026
This policy explains what personal information Price in Tanzania collects when you shop with us, why we need it, who else sees it, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do with it. We do not sell your information to anyone, we collect only what an order needs, and we will never ask you for a PIN or a password.
1. Introduction
Price in Tanzania is an electronics retailer in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. To sell you a device and get it to your door we need some information about you. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we need it, who else sees it, how long we hold it and what you can ask us to do with it.
We have written it in plain language on purpose. A privacy policy that nobody can read protects nobody.
Three commitments underpin everything below.
- We do not sell your personal information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- We collect what an order needs, and little else. You can browse this entire site and buy from us without creating an account.
- We never ask for a PIN or a password. No page on this site and no member of our staff will ever ask you for your mobile money PIN, your bank password or the password to your Google or Facebook account.
This policy applies to this website, to orders placed with us by telephone or WhatsApp, and to our customer support. It does not apply to other websites we link to.
2. Who is responsible for your information
Price in Tanzania decides why and how your personal information is used, and is therefore responsible for it. You can reach us about anything in this policy at:
- [email protected]
- Telephone and WhatsApp
- +255 766 887 872
- Location
- Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
- Hours
- Mon - Sat, 8AM - 10PM
Mark your message as a privacy request and it will be routed to the person who handles them.
3. What information we collect
Information you give us
- Order details. Your name, telephone number, delivery address and any landmark or instruction you add to help the rider find you.
- Email address. Where you give one, for order confirmations, price alerts and support replies.
- Billing details. Where you ask for a tax invoice, the billing name and, if applicable, the Tax Identification Number and VAT registration number.
- Account profile. If you sign in, the name, email address and profile picture your sign-in provider passes to us.
- Your lists. Your cart, favourites and price alerts, so they follow you between devices.
- Reviews and messages. Anything you write in a review, a support message or a WhatsApp conversation with us.
- Warranty and repair records. The serial number or IMEI of a device, a description of the fault, and the outcome.
Information collected automatically
- Device and browser information. Browser type, operating system, screen size and language, so pages render correctly.
- Usage information. Pages viewed, searches run, products compared and links followed, so we can see which parts of the shop work and which do not.
- Approximate location. Your region, derived from your network connection, so we can show the right delivery estimate instead of assuming everyone is in Dar es Salaam. This is a region, not a street. Precise location is only ever used if you grant your browser's location permission, and you can refuse.
- Technical logs. IP address, date and time of a request and any error produced, kept for security and for diagnosing faults.
What we deliberately do not collect
We do not collect or store card numbers, mobile money PINs, bank passwords or the passwords to your Google or Facebook accounts. Those never reach this website. We do not ask for your national identification number, and we do not collect information about your health, your religion, your political views or anything else of that nature.
4. Why we use your information
Every use below is tied to a reason. We do not collect information first and find a use for it later.
- To complete your order
- Confirming the order, taking payment, preparing the goods and passing the delivery address to the rider or courier. Without this there is no sale.
- To keep you informed
- Order confirmations, dispatch messages, delivery calls and replies to your questions.
- To honour warranty and returns
- Proving what you bought and when, tracking a repair and issuing a refund or replacement.
- To run your account
- Signing you in, syncing your cart and favourites, and showing you your past orders and reviews.
- To send alerts you asked for
- Price drop alerts on products you chose to watch, and notifications you switched on yourself.
- To improve the shop
- Understanding which products, searches and pages are used, so we stock better and fix what is broken.
- To prevent fraud and abuse
- Detecting fraudulent orders, abusive returns claims and attacks on the site, and protecting our staff and customers.
- To meet legal obligations
- Keeping tax and accounting records, and responding to a lawful request from an authority.
Where we rely on your consent, such as for marketing messages or precise location, you may withdraw it at any time and we stop.
5. Signing in with Google or Facebook
We offer sign-in through Google and Facebook so that you do not have to create and remember another password.
- We never see your password. You authenticate with Google or Facebook directly. They confirm to us that the sign-in succeeded and pass us a limited profile.
- What we receive is your name, your email address and your profile picture. Nothing else. We do not receive your contacts, your friends list, your posts or permission to act on your behalf.
- What we store is the name, the email address and the link to the picture, so we can recognise you next time and show your avatar.
- Facebook may withhold your email address if you choose not to share it. Where that happens we generate an internal placeholder so your account still works. You can give us a real address later if you want order emails.
Your session is held in a secure cookie that this server sets and that scripts in your browser cannot read. This is deliberate: it means that even a fault elsewhere on the page cannot expose your session.
You can disconnect our access at any time from your Google account settings or your Facebook account settings, and you can ask us to delete the account entirely.
7. Payments
Payments are made by mobile money, bank transfer or cash on delivery in Dar es Salaam. Each of those happens outside this website.
- Mobile money and bank payments are completed in your own provider's application or menu, or at the counter. The provider handles your PIN and your credentials. We never see them.
- What reaches us is confirmation that a payment arrived, along with the reference and the paying name or number that your provider shows us. We keep that as proof of payment.
- No page on this site will ever ask you to enter a mobile money PIN or a bank password. If any page appears to, close it and contact us immediately.
9. Where your information is held
Our records are held in Tanzania and on servers operated by established technology providers, some of which are located outside Tanzania. This is normal for any website: hosting, email and notification services frequently run on international infrastructure.
Where information leaves Tanzania, we use providers that apply recognised security standards and contractual protections, and we share only what the service requires. We do not transfer customer information to any party for the purpose of marketing to you.
10. How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as it is useful for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as the law requires.
- Order and payment records
- Kept for the period required by tax and accounting law in Tanzania, currently seven years from the end of the relevant financial year.
- Warranty and repair records
- Kept for the length of the warranty and for a reasonable period afterwards, so a later claim can be checked against the original sale.
- Account profile
- Kept while your account is open. Deleted when you close it, apart from what an order record must retain.
- Cart, favourites and price alerts
- Kept while they are useful to you and removed when you clear them or close your account.
- Support messages
- Kept for up to two years, so that a repeat problem can be seen in context.
- Technical logs
- Kept for a short period, ordinarily no more than 12 months.
- Published reviews
- Kept while published. Removed on request, or anonymised if the rating is still needed for the product average.
11. How we protect your information
No system is perfectly secure, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What we can tell you is what we actually do.
- The whole site is served over an encrypted connection, so what passes between your device and our server cannot be read in transit.
- Your sign-in session is held in a cookie that only this server can read. It is not readable by scripts running on the page, which removes an entire category of attack.
- Requests that change something, such as signing in or posting a review, are checked to confirm they came from this site and not from another site acting in your name.
- Access to customer records is limited to the people who need it to do their work.
- We do not hold card numbers, PINs or banking credentials, so there is nothing of that kind here to steal.
You can help. Keep control of the email or social account you sign in with, be suspicious of any message asking you to pay into a personal account, and remember that we will never ask you for a PIN.
If a breach ever occurs that is likely to affect you, we will tell you and the relevant authority without undue delay, and we will tell you what to do about it.
12. Your rights over your information
Tanzanian data protection law, principally the Personal Data Protection Act, gives you rights over information about you. You may:
- Ask what we hold about you and receive a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct it if it is wrong or incomplete. An address we have recorded incorrectly is worth fixing before your next order, not after.
- Ask us to delete it, where we do not have a legal reason to keep it. Order and tax records must be retained for the statutory period even after an account is closed.
- Object to a use of your information, or ask us to restrict it while a disagreement is resolved.
- Withdraw consent at any time where a use rests on consent, such as marketing or precise location.
- Ask for your information in a portable form so you can take it elsewhere.
- Complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission if you believe we have handled your information wrongly.
How to exercise a right
Write to [email protected] and tell us which right you are exercising. We may ask a question or two to confirm it is really you, which protects you rather than obstructs you. We respond within 30 days, and we tell you if a request will take longer and why. Exercising a right is free.
13. Alerts, notifications and marketing
We are a shop, not a mailing list. The messages we send fall into two groups.
Messages about your order
Confirmations, dispatch notices, delivery calls and replies to your questions. These are part of the service and are sent whether or not you have opted into anything, because an order you hear nothing about is worse than no order at all.
Messages you chose
- Price drop alerts on products you chose to watch. Set on a product page, removed at any time from your account, and they stop.
- Push notifications, only if you granted the permission in your browser or your phone. Revoke it there and they stop immediately.
- Offers and new arrivals, only where you asked for them. Every such message carries a way to stop it.
Unsubscribing from marketing never affects messages about an order you have placed.
14. Children
This shop is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under eighteen, and accounts are for adults only. A parent or guardian buying a device for a child should place the order in their own name.
If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
15. Other websites
This site links to other places: manufacturer pages, delivery tracking, social networks and sign-in providers. Once you follow a link you are on their site, under their privacy policy, not ours. We have no control over what they collect. Read their policies if the question matters to you.
16. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change, when we add a service or when the law changes. The date at the top shows when the wording last changed. Where a change materially affects you, we will say so on the site rather than leave you to find it.
Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy. If you do not, you can ask us to close your account.
17. Questions and complaints
If something in this policy concerns you, or you think we have handled your information badly, tell us first. Write to [email protected] and we will look into it and reply. Most concerns are resolved in a single exchange.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you have the right to complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission in Tanzania. Complaining to us first is not a condition of doing so.
For the terms that govern a purchase, see our Terms and Conditions.
